The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they have found it.

June 2010. Ottawa Conference for the Society of Canadian Dance Scholars: Renegade Bodies: Dance in Canada in the 1970s. A colleague and I perform and present a paper: ‘Threads of Influence: Examining the Influence of Dance in the ’70s on Theatre and Theatre training Today‘.
I review my influences, among them: Judy Jarvis, Til Thiele, Lisa Nelson, Nancy Stark Smith, Martha Eddy, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Anne Bogart, Tina Landau, Linda Putman, Esther Myers, and Ellen Lauren. All women. Most artists. All inspirational lifelines.
February 2005. Ottawa: Syntonics®/Authentic Movement Workshop with Judith Koltai. I am invited to join the ‘Master Class’.
My threads: Contact Improvisation, Grotowski/Putnam River Work and Viewpoints study what is (gravity), how it feels (kinaesthetic response), and what we do (impulse). Yoga teaches body experience as metaphor and messenger. Through structure, symbolism, lineage and discipline asanas, like seals, can be opened. Is Embodied Practice® a bridge? I decide to find out. Gratefully I say ‘yes!’
Embodied Practice® ‘re - minds’ me that:
- When I loose it, it’s not the alley that is blind.
- The act of doing, writing and reflection strengthens the small voice of deeper re - membering and intuition.
- Considered objectivity of thought, action and speech is hard. The effort, rich and worthy. Unsubstantiated
judgement, interpretation and projection dampen the small voice, increase fear and confusion in life’'s labyrinth
and create emotional hubris.
These practices inform everything I do, if I let them. Embodied Practice® is my umbrella.
